The Stuff of Legends

In lieu of Jeter's participation in gym class, due to his casted leg, he is required to research and write a report on a team, sport or athlete.  This assignment is to be completed for every two weeks of missed gym classes.

He selected Lawrence Taylor for his first report.

This is an excerpt from his (L.T.'s) speech when he was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1999.

"...the thing I want to leave all the people (with) is that...life, like anything else, can knock you down.  It can turn you out...You just got to go play.  And no matter how many times it knocks you down.  No matter how many times you think you can't go forward.  No matter how many times things just don't go right.  You know, anybody can quit.  Anybody can do that.  A Hall of Famer never quits.  A Hall of Famer realizes that the crime is not being knocked down, the crime is not getting up again." (emphasis is mine)

How fitting.

On Monday Jeter said "One week down, three to go".

This is not easy for him and yet, he doesn't complain.

I love him so much, I sometimes wish he could have been spared the pain of this experience.  And yet, it is because of this same love, I am thankful that through this, he is learning.  The foundation of how to get back up again is being firmly established.
